Half A World Away
This piece, Half A World Away, is dedicated to my late best friend, (also) Christina Smith, who left this world too soon. The piece is a physical capture of the moment in time in which I found out the news of her passing. The concept is based around three songs – 1. Talking Drum, which was playing just before I received the phone call 2. Cosmic Journey, sung to me as I heard the news 3. Sunflower, Are You There, the subsequent song that consoled me as I sat with the news. This art piece captures the rawness of emotion, the gravity of unfiltered sadness, her beauty, and the expansion of her soul.
Half A World Away is made with wood, air dry clay, LED lights, and over 600 fiber optic cables. It is currently for sale and being displayed at Almost Real Things in their Touch the Art exhibit which is in collaboration with The Texas School of the Blind and Visually Impaired. All the art in this gallery can be experienced through through touch. I like to think of this creative dedicated to my friend as a wonderful way for her to still touch the hearts of others, as she always did when she was here among us.
You will be forever missed and forever radiant.
